Dr. Matthew Larsen on why he became a dentist Read TranscriptThe more I learned about dentistry, the more I realized that it was a very technical and artistic field to be in. I love working with my hands. I love problem solving. I really got to enjoy the small and technical details of dentistry.
Then, as I started to learn what sort of problems people have—because I'd never really had a lot of issues with my teeth, I've always been really blessed with good teeth and good genetics from my parents, but when I started to find that the pain that people had and the suffering that they went through when they had tooth problems, it really became very empowering to me to be able to help them with that and to be able to solve those problems.
Going into dentistry, I really had no idea what I was doing, but the love that I've developed for it over the years, it's just completely changed my perspective about it. Now, not only is it my work, but it's my passion to be able to find out creative ways to help people solve their problems, and help get them out of pain, and help them be able to chew, and help them be able just to live life, and smile, and be happy.
I love doing that. I love solving problems. I love working with my hands. I get a lot of emotional satisfaction now out of being able to help solve people's problems
