One of the things that gets me the most excited about dentistry is the technology—it’s just the changes that are happening in dentistry. All of our X-rays are digital and when we take an X-ray, it uses very little X-ray exposure and we can immediately see the film on the computer screen—there's no waiting around for X-rays to develop. If we need to see something in a patient's mouth, we can see it instantly.
We also have a CT scan machine where we can take three-dimensional X-rays of people’s teeth, and this makes so many more things possible for us. If people are having to have a tooth extracted, if they need dentures or they need implants, we now have the ability, in our office, to instantly take an X-ray that's gonna give us a three-dimensional picture of the bone, so that we can see the ideal place for an implant to go. We can also look in the bone for things that maybe shouldn't be there or maybe, any abnormalities or things—structures that we need to be careful of, nerves or blood vessels in there, and it gives us a lot of flexibility to be able to handle complex situations in-house.
We also have our technology that we make same-day crowns with. We have the ability to scan teeth in, and we can scan those teeth in rather than take an impression, and we can send that off and have companies like ClearCorrect or Invisalign, they'll take those scans and they can build retainers, and we can do clear retainers, and move teeth based off of those digital scans.
It's amazing, the technology that we have and the abilities that we have that just weren't available five or 10 years ago. And so, I feel like a lot of people have avoided the dentist and they don't wanna get a problem because they feel like it's not solvable or they feel like there's nothing that can be done, but I would just assure people there's always something that can be done. We have so many tools available to us and we have so many different ways that we can handle situations. There's always something we can do and you might be surprised how simply and how quickly we could solve a problem.
